Appropriate Sept. 11 tribute by our President
I don’t know what’s less of a surprise to me; that this photo hasn’t popped up all over the blogosphere or that someone in the government was stupid enough to have a DOORMAT made with the Flag of the United States on it. Photo taken from Reuters slideshow here. Please visit the actual Reuters slidehow site for 11 (out of 12) appropriately respectful photos.

This photo from Reuters shows Mr. Bush standing directly on a doormat with an image of our Nation’s flag to honor those who died on September 11th. What moron approved putting out the image of the flag on the floor so it could be walked on?
Of course, this isn’t the first flag violation Duhbyah has been pictured performing.
Why do I have to bring this up every year or so?
US History: Flag Rules and Regulation
Section 8c “The flag should never be fastened, displayed, used, or stored in such a manner as to permit it to be easily torn, soiled, or damaged in any way.”
I would think a doormat qualifies. Way to go, Duhb.
Update 1: Leave it up to Mark Frauenfelder of BoingBoing.net to put this into perfect clarity.
To paraphrase George Orwell: “If you want a vision of the future, imagine a shoe stamping on a symbol of freedom – forever.”
Update 2 – 5:24pm: I truly do hope this is a photoshop. But, Yahoo apparently has an additional shot. Obviously, also a low-resolution file. It does look suspicious.

Update 3 – 9/12/06 11:08: You know, something that’s even more disappointing than this country’s lack of respect for the flag (how many plastic, tattered American flags do you se on the road every day as you drive to work?) is the lack of respect for each other. The name calling and short-fuse disrespect in the comments for this post are terrible. Then again, why am I surprised? This is the Intertubes after all.
Update 4 – 9/12/06: While searching for the photographer on Reuters so we can put an end to this “Is it or isn’t it real” debate, I came across this blog post of another Bush flag mishap. Sure, it’s going to bring up the same ‘That’s not a flag!’ arguments. But think aboout it. It’s the SAME photographer!! Let’s blame him!

Will the real Jason Reed please step forward? (Only joking. I just thought it wasa funny coincidence). If anyone knows how to contact a Reuters photographer, let me know.
